Mircea the Old first documented Piteşti as a trading center in May-20-1388.
The city has one of the largest petrochemical complexes in Romania. Near Pitesti, 15 Km west in the town of Mioveni is located the largest car factory in the country ( Dacia Renault).
The city has a population about 168.458 inhabitants (estimated in 2002).
Pitesti is also known like “the city of tulips”, because every spring, the city hosts a famous exhibition named “The Tulips Symphony” witch gathers flowers from all around the country and the world in one big exhibition,
However, most of Pitesti is newly-built, and doesn't have castles, or many old buildings like Sibiu, Brasov or Bucharest, but is a beautiful city witch deserves to be visited.
